Janice Jucker of Three Brothers Wins 2009 Woman Business Owner of the Year Award
October 23, 2009… The Greater Houston Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO Houston) is pleased to announce the winner for this year’s Woman Business Owner of the Year award. Janice Jucker, President of Three Brothers Bakery, was this year’s recipient of the 2009 award. This award is the only award given to Women Business Owners, by Women Business Owners and the winner must demonstrate excellence as a business owner, initiative and creativity in overcoming obstacles in her business, civic and community involvement and professional accomplishments and contributions.
Between being faced with Katrina in 2005, breast cancer in 2006-2007 and then Hurricane Ike’s damage to the family business in 2008, Janice was able to channel her “blessings and opportunities” into something positive. Her journey to manage Three Brothers Bakery began after Hurricane Katrina. She combined her passion for volunteering with her job in 2005 by leading a group of competing vendors to provide IT services to Reliant Park where the Katrina evacuees were being housed. These services allowed the guests to be reunited with their family, friends and loved ones during the largest evacuation in America’s history.
Three Brothers Bakery has proudly served Houstonians for 60 years, and takes pride in being a rare breed of scratch bakers using only the finest ingredients in their breads and pastries. The Jucker family began baking in Chrzanow, Poland around 1825 and still uses many of the family recipes. Nearly ten months after Hurricane ice forced the temporary closure of the bakery; it re-opened its doors on June 22, 2009 with a newly built 6,500 square foot facility. The bakery follows the legacy of its founding fathers, all holocaust survivors, continuing to feed the hungry and homeless on a daily basis.
Additionally, Janice is a breast cancer survivor and is passionate about making sure others do not find themselves one day with this disease.
